Hello. First post here, and I was wondering if you guys can answer a question for me. I'm looking to start autocrossing my car next season, but sadly its an automatic transmission, so I'd really like to ad a transmission cooler since my transmission is notorious for failing rather quickly due to overheating. I was wondering, what are the class requirements for running a transmission cooler? I'd like to start of in stock class, but I'm wondering if adding a cooler would bump me to another class? Car is a 98 Ford Contour SE 2.0L 4cyl ATX. As far as I know, now other models of Contours or Mystiques (Mercury version) came with ATX coolers, so it is not considered a "stock" part on any model. Thanks for any information you guys can provide me with.

I don't think you can add a cooler under stock rules legally. For local competition, i doubt anyone would care. I also doubt heat will be an issue on an autocross course...I run/ran an automatic in my race car for years and the only time I ever had overheating issues was at a ProSolo with multiple drag race launches on grippy concrete. This was in a 400hp car with 14" rear slicks, so the load in general was much higher on the transmission.

HTH,
