Hell yes! [Y] 197hp, 8,000 rpm redline, six-speed manual, helical LSD, and four doors [8-|] I had the opportunity to drive the '06 Si coupe recently and I must admit that it was the most fun I have ever had behind the wheel of a front-drive street car. The acceleration and handling were impeccable for a vehicle of this price! Dare I admit it, this car is borderline Integra Type-R performance and grip despite the larger size, softer chassis, and heavier curb weight. For $21,000, I fail to see how you could go wrong with the '07 Honda Civic Si sedan. |
softer chassis
Actually, the current Civic platform is significantly stiffer than the old DC/EG and EK platforms.... But, I definetly LOVE the Civic Si Sedan! |

For those of you not registered on their site: "Honda recently announced at the Paris Mondial Auto Salon that it will be submitting the new Civic Type R for FIA Homologation for Group N and Group A circuit racing and rallying.
Honda Civic Type R
The Group N version of the rally car will be eligible for the 2007 Rookie category of the FIA Junior World Rally Championship while the Group R version could be eligible for the 2008 J-WRC, depending on regulations and approval by the FIA at the homologation.
Both the Group N and A version have been developed by Honda and JAS Motorsport, its official partner in customer racing. The Group A car will feature a sequential, six-speed gearbox with a mechanical limited slip differential, 240bhp from the engine and extensive composite bodywork.
A Group N version of the previous model has already been seen on the WRC, at the hands of Matti Rantanen, who finished third in the J-WRC category on the Neste Oil Rally Finland in August.
MD of JAS, Alessandro Mariani, described the Civic Type R as "? the car to have for racing." He also said that he was proud that Honda had placed its faith in his company for such an important project.
JAS expects order to be taken from this month while it also anticipates deliveries for parts, kits and complete cars to begin in February 2007." Looks like the previous Type-R was homoligated too. http://www.akk-motorsport.fi/images/2006-10-02T10-15_1516127703_155.jpg
think it feels anything like an old CRX?
Absolutely not. The CRX is a delicate subject for me, because I am torn in my opinion of the car. The left side of my brain is enamoured by all the CRX has to boast... light weight, small size, crisp handling, excellent value, and a stellar fun factor. The car is practical! It's affordable! It's a blast to drive! ...but that's not enough. The cars is lacking in just one field... and an important one at that. Soul. Plain and simple, the car has none. It has no feel, it has no passion. Have you ever been to a psychologist that held up little flash cards and asked you what comes to mind? A flash card bearing a Honda CRX (even an Si) would bring to mind a slice of wheat toast and turtleneck sweaters. The new Civic Si is different. On the approach to eight thousand revs, as I gripped the leather wheel and reached for the elegant shifter, there were indeed things coming to mind. Naked women... riding rocketships.... while throwing fireworks at children. This car is powerful, this car is sexy, this car is fun. Above all, it has soul. Long live the right cerebral hemisphere. Am I the only one here that thinks Jeff may need some serious counseling, possibly on the eastside? |
What's wrong Jeff, is the wing too small for you? [:P]
yes [:p] Additionally, the snub nose is ugly. The abrubt terminus that is the rear is ugly. The lower line on the rear bumper is ugly. The mirrors are ugly. The door handles are ugly. The wheels are just plain hideous. Continuing with that theme, the steering wheel is also ugly, though the rest of the interior seems ok. You know what's not ugly? the new 997 GT3 RS! Hot damn, Herr Seelig, hot damn. |

Indeed, it's no GT3, but I find the styling and driving experiance of the Civic Si appealing when you consider it's practicality, price, and reliability. There is not much in the same class that delivers the way the Si does. It's a cheap car with excellent fit and finish that I was excited to drive. Unfortunatly, that just isn't commonplace these days. I challenge you to go drive one and report back. |

Think of it as comparing pears to pornstars [;)] Sure, they're very different, but that's the entire point of the comparison [:D] That said, it may well be nice to drive. However, as I alluded to earlier, in that price range, I think the Solstice is at the top of the heap. For cars with more than two seats for losers who don't DD rally cars, the Cooper S, a barely used WRX, or, dare I even say, SRT-4 are nice choices as well. Maybe if you want a nav system and bevy of buttons on the steering wheel, the Si is the better bet. Alas, those things don't scream "soul" and "passion" to me, nor does the styling, which actually makes the bugeye Imprezas look good [;)] |

The bottom line is that the Mazdaspeed 3 is a much better value for the money!

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead, I drove one of these Si's last evening. All I can say is that having owned an STi makes everything else seem slow. There was zero torque and there was almost no acceleration until 5500RPM, afterwards there would be a nice little surge but then you redline before you can smile. I did feel that it was a very solid package ( for the money)in terms of looks, comfort, features, handling ( even though the tires are very squishy), and acceleration. It's definitely more comfort than performance, but that is what most targeted buyers are looking for. P.S. Once you taste torque, your craving for it will only become greater, and there is no going back go lower levels of torque. Do not buy an STi!

New to Solo, but want to mention that I'm a proud new owner of the 2007 Civic SI 4dr White loaded and love it. I agree that power band is short lived while driving.
To put my virus to bay with regards to torque I throw on my helmet and take a ride on a ZRX 1100. |
